In the last few articles, we discussed the education sector and online learning space from a macro-perspective. In this article, I will specifically map out WHAT Mapedia.org really is and HOW Mapedia will shift the way people learn.

Mapedia is the forefront of Education 3.0. Mapedia.org is a new kind of learning platform at the crossroad between Wikipedia, Google Maps and Khan Academy: a learning map built collaboratively to support learners to learn any topic seamlessly. Whether exploring unknown areas of knowledge or wanting to learn something precise as fast as possible, Mapedia provides guidance while leaving the learner in control. Our learning map shows how concepts are connected and where to learn them best.

Mapedia is the best place to get started learning anything, find the best learning materials, figure out what to learn next or connect with other learners on the same path as you.

Here is a simplified breakdown of what Mapedia is at its core and how it will shift the way people learn.

Explore Learning

Visualise and explore every great resource available in a topic space.

Through a network graph database, any user can seamlessly explore different fields of study, topics, subtopics, and resources for any area of knowledge you could possibly think of. Through this “Google Earth-Style” view, a curious learner is given the opportunity to see the relationships between different fields of interest, while seamlessly diving deeper into subtopics to discover all the great resources from around the world.

Guided Learning

Data and community enabled guidance. No more revenue driven recommendations.

By stepping away from monetised recommendations, users are able utilise data and community driven suggestions. Based on your existing expertise on a given topic, and the paths laid out from the expertise of other users, we are able to create a much more directed and effective learning experience for the motivated user. Let us give you some options of where you can and should start a topic, then let the community and the data trails they have left behind guide you to create your idea of successful learning.

Community Driven

A limitless, crowdsourced product, to help individuals achieve learning goals.

Mapedia is a product built for a vast community of learners — so the community should be the ones in control. By developing a scalable “Wiki-Style” platform, we are merely providing users with the tools to build an educational utopia. We want our users to develop the grand educational map through their own expertise. We want users to guide one another through the deep trenches of knowledge. We want our users to decide how to democratise their tool. We want our community to succeed and grow and blossom into a network of knowledge and growth that will only continue to advance and benefit more individuals as time passes.
